Biografija: Thana Bona Pavelic, a jazz, blues and R&B vocalist, composer, and arranger, born in 1987 in New York, has already established herself in New York and Croatia as an exciting new musical talent. Thana has performed with many renowned European jazz musicians at festivals and workshops in Croatia and Italy, including Austrian jazz vocalist Ines Reiger and the Emil Spanyi Trio, and with aspiring drummer, Bernd Reiter, and guitarist Elvis Penava. In July 2007, Thana performed a solo concert for the Amadeo Festival in Zagreb, followed by a solo concert in Dubrovnik for Art Workshop Lazareti in 2007. In January 2008, Thana opened the Zagreb Blues Festival at B.P. Club as solo vocalist accompanied by Mario Mavrin, Julije Niklos, Goran Rukavina and Marko Lazaric. Thana most recently appeared with Ratko Zjaca, (guitar), Ratko Divjak (drums), and Johnny Tevreden (bass), at the August 2008 Bale Jazz Festival in Croatia as well as with Joe Meixner (piano), Elvis Penava (guitar), Goran Rukavina (bass), Lovro Ravbar (saxophone), Lenart Krecic (saxophone), and Marko Lazaric (drums) at the August 2008 Art Workshop Lazareti arts festival in Dubrovnik, Croatia. Thana has been studying jazz vocal performance at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music since 2007 prior to which she attended Northeastern University in Boston and sang with the Northeastern Jazz Orchestra. Since her move to New York she has studied under many of the world’s most recognized musicians; Bernard “Pretty” Purdie, Junior Mance, Billy Harper, Dr. Richard Harper, Kate Baker, Jay Clayton, Janet Lawson, and Joan Stiles to name a few. Thana’s New York performances have included appearances with pianist, Junior Mance and drummer, Bernard “Pretty” Purdie. In spring 2008, Thana debuted her own compositions at Sweet Rhythm Jazz Club in New York City with pianist and composer, Michael Stein. Bernard “Pretty” Purdie’s appreciation for Thana’s talent as both a vocalist and a composer has resulted in her becoming one of the lead vocalists, composers, and arrangers for Mr. Purdie’s R&B Ensemble in New York. Thana has since been invited to perform and record her own compositions on Mr. Purdie’s upcoming album, scheduled for release by the spring of 2009. Great things can be expected of singer, composer, and arranger, Thana Bona Pavelic. Her musical vision reverberates with personal truth and passion. This emerging “soulstress”, influenced by the blues of Aretha Franklin, the soul of Janis Joplin and the musical genius of Ella Fitzgerald, is the music world’s newest surprise.
